Someone sent me this quote today and it was good for me to hear, so I thought I'd pass it along. It comes from a talk entitled "A message to my Grandaughters" from the September 1986 Ensign:

But, my dear granddaughters, you cannot do everything well at the same time. You cannot be a 100 percent wife, a 100 percent mother, a 100 percent church worker, a 100 percent career person, and a 100 percent public-service person at the same time. How can all of these roles be coordinated? Says Sarah Davidson: "The only answer I come up with is that you can have it sequentially. At one stage you may emphasize career, and at another marriage and nurturing young children, and at any point you will be aware of what is missing. If you are lucky, you will be able to fit everything in." (Ibid.)

Doing things sequentially—filling roles one at a time at different times—is not always possible, as we know, but it gives a woman the opportunity to do each thing well in its time and to fill a variety of roles in her life. A woman does not necessarily have to track a career like a man does. She may fit more than one career into the various seasons of life. She need not try to sing all of the verses of her song at the same time.

The Book of Ecclesiastes says: "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." (Eccl. 3:1.)

The Growing Baby

The Family of Five

We decided to take these shots before church on Sunday and I am learning that getting five people to all look good is quite a challenge - so this is the best we could do.
And the new addition all dressed up in the darling outfit from Aunt Carla!
Here are the newest trio of brothers!
Someday, when these boys are all potty trained, we may travel and come see family again - but I can't figure out how to travel with these three darling men!!! Until then, these pictures will have to do.

Visitors to see our new arrival!

Sheri - Our neighbor helped the first day while I was in the hospital. Then, when Garrett's dad heard that we would have the baby in the morning and he drove out (Missing, by the way, the wrestling match of one of Jacob's namesakes, Uncle Joseph Ephraim, where he did a fantastic backflip to get out of a wrestling hold and won the tournament - YAY! Uncle Joseph!). Dad tended the kids all day - and here - he finally got to see his new grandson.
Saturday afternoon, my parents showed up (after weathering the Wyoming wind and winter roads)! Dad even got to come out thanks to the long weekend. It was great to have them both come out. Dad left on Monday of the next week and mom (Thank you, thank you, thank you) is still here, allowing me to nap...

Gabe - during the two seconds that he's interested in holding his new little brother. Now he loves pointing at him all the time and we just try to keep the eyes safe.

The New Arrival - It's NOT a girl!

Well, two and 1/2 weeks early, we came to the hospital - the nurses told me (at 8am) when we arrived that I'd go home soon, but the contractions wouldn't stop - despite shot after shot of an anti-contraction medication - So the baby had decided it was time. When the doctor decided to keep me overnight, Garrett brought the boys up. So, I guess this can be considered the BEFORE shot.
At 8:00 am, I was taken in for surgery and Jacob Ephraim Platt was born at 8:30am, weighing 6 pounds, 1.2 ounces, and measuring 20 inches. I could only chuckle on the delivery table when the doctor announced - It's a boy. Garrett had a feeling that it would be a boy - but I was certain it was a girl - I had felt so differently during the pregnancy. Well, I'm convinced this little boy is going to be the family trickster, since he brought a delivery full of surprises.
